Are you one of those technicians who believes you can’t use one brand of replacement parts for all makes and models of vehicles? If you are, ACDelco would like to challenge you to start thinking differently. For the next 12 months, ACDelco will challenge individual technicians around the country to try select ACDelco products for non-GM vehicle related repairs. The technicians will be asked for their assessments on the parts quality, reliability, fit and function and the results will be reported out in a series of articles in Underhood Service, Brake & Front End and ImportCar. WHAT ARE THE TYPICAL CAUSES OF COMPRESSOR FAILURE?A typical A/C compressor failure can be caused by case leakage, clutch failure, bearing failure or dirt in the system. Oftentimes, when the clutch fails on an older compressor, the age of the compressor doesn’t warrant taking it apart, and you worry about the front seal when you take the clutch off. HOW DID YOU BEGIN TO DIAGNOSE THIS REPAIR?My customer’s vehicle needed a new A/C compressor because the front bearing in the clutch failed. 
HOW DID THE INSTALLATION GO?The installation went very well. Right out of the box, the compressor fit perfectly. All the parts were supplied, including new gaskets, seals and O-rings, and the fit and performance were excellent; true to the original part. WOULD YOU NOW BE MORE LIKELY TO USE ACDELCO PARTS FOR NON-GM VEHICLE RELATED REPAIRS, SUCH AS THIS?Absolutely! I saw OE fit, function and performance with the ACDelco compressor. Plus, with the complete unit, we had what we needed in the box and the job went more quickly and easily. We didn’t have to look for seals or gaskets in the back room. Not only did this part allow us to do a quality job, but an efficient one that saved me time in the bay. |
